What we do
We are a family run business who have been operating since 2014 on the East Isle of Burra. If you are a visitor to Shetland our aim is to provide you with a wonderful experience as part of your holiday here. We have a stable of ten Icelandic and two Fjord horses who offer a unique opportunity to see some of Shetland’s best scenery on horseback.
We offer both treks out to the West and East isles of Burra as well as lessons in our school for all ages and pony parties for children.
We have four treks in Burra that range in length. The unspoilt environment and the stunning scenery creates a fantastic experience and the several different options will suit various riders’ ambitions.
Our treks range from 1-3 hours and the pace is adjusted to match the ability of the riders. We can only take one beginner rider per trek for safety reasons.
Our weight limit is 14 stone/ 196 lbs/ 88kg. All treks are weather dependent.

Trek 1 – Hogaland
This shorter Trek takes about one hour and is to the top of a hill where you have an amazing panoramic view of Shetland. This trek is suitable for less and more experienced riders.
If there is a beginner rider in the trek then the pace of the trek will have to be geared towards the weakest rider for safety reasons.
The cost of this trek is £100.

Trek 2 – Symbister
The second trek takes about two hours and is over a tombolo along a long grassy track and down to an ancient settlement called Symbister, when the ground is dry, this trek can be extended to cover a further distance over a hill where you have a fantastic view of the island of South Havra and a cliff arch into the sea. If you choose the extended version of this trek it takes about two and a half hours in total.
This trek is suitable for people with some riding experience to very experienced riders. The cost of this trek is £130 or £170 if you wish to do the extended version.

Trek 3 – Minn Beach
Our third trek takes about two and a half hours and requires quite a lot of road riding but it eventually takes you to a beautiful sandy beach with golden sands. This trek is only for very experienced riders because of all the road riding. This trek is dependent on the tide times.
The cost of this trek is £190.

Trek 4 – West Burra
The fourth trek is on the West Isle of Burra and incorporates beautiful views over the Atlantic and overlooking Foula on the horizon.
It is a slower ride as the terrain is quite rocky but the scenery is stunning. This trek takes around an hour and can be done on any day of the week.
The cost is £100.

Riding Lessons
We have a purpose built outdoor riding arena with a rubber/ sand surface. This surface is a very forgiving surface for both horse and rider and ensures a comfortable and safe environment for learning to ride or developing your riding skills further.
We offer one-to-one tuition and group lessons.
Where to find us
We’re located on the island of East Burra. Arriving in Bridge End, turn left at the war memorial and continue across the small bridge and you’ll find us on the right side of the road, just past Bridge End hall.
